DANE PETERSON!

So there is apparently more than one Dane Peterson in the longboard surfing world. One Dane "insane in the membrane" Peterson and one Dane "the kid" Peterson. I know no one follows this blog, so i have no regret by posting this. "THE" Dane Peterson is living in Australia and married to Belinda Peterson-Baggs. Honestly this is the least of my worries at the moment, being from the east coast and, however i have nothing else to talk about on my blog.

On a side note I hope nothing but the best for both Dane's in they're future.

At Least We Had Waves

i don't understand it. we either have absolutely no waves or its victory at sea. Luckily we had waves today, despite the 40 mph gusts, and we should have some tomorrow.

If you don't like it you can geeet ouuut!

As many of you know North Carolina isn't known for having the most consistent waves. Its been unrideable here in WB for like five days straight. Growing up in the south, the alternative slide mongrels like to spend time out of the water doing a few things, eatin barbecue, and listenin to bluegrass. Much like jazz, bluegrass music isn't for everyone, however each have very strong roots, just as strong as surfing.

Now I know the Punch Brothers don't consider themselves a "bluegrass" band, i'm pretty sure Chirs Thile is from L.A., but they are all super talented musicians and they play the bluegrass so its all good.

Merry Thanksgiving To All

Tis the day where you awkwardly pretend to know people you see a couple of times a year at most, and stuff your face with too much food to avoid conversation. I also hear that people like to watch football on this day. I'm about two hours from the nearest breaking wave and am bored out of my mind. Luckily a bunch of old friends are home to keep the madness to a minimum. Hope you like the picture, took me all year to make. Have a good holiday!

WWJD?

ASM on WB Live surf

Its pretty easy to find pictures of yourself on the local surf report page WB Live Surf, especially when your the only one on a longboard for miles. I guess the guys weren't boosting big enough airs at the time and they had to fill the site with pictures of something a bit different.

John Cardiel will always rip

A couple of months ago I was looking back over some old skate vhs tapes I had and came across Transworld Skates "Sight Unseen". I immediately thought back to watching John Carkiels' part in that movie and thinking about how it was my favorite, just because how hard he charged and just skated so fast. So I went to go look him up online to see what he'd been up to as of late. I was floored when I found out he had been hit by a car while on a trip to Australia around 2003 and paralyzed from the waist down. He is on his way to recovery and is doing really well, standing, walking, riding bikes, even getting on a board from time to time. I came across this video and thought i'd share, this guy will never stop, and thats why he'll always be one of the greatest skateboarders of all time. A true inspiration.

Off to the Outer Banks

We are off to Outer Banks of NC this weekend for some waves and good times. Its been flat for the past week here around Wilmington. I guess this really is the beginning of fall, flat spells for weeks on end and cooler weather. Here are a few pictures taken at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse about a year ago on a mediocre evening before some storm, i can't remember which one.

F-ing Malibu

This picture reminds me of Wrightsville Beach on an okay day. I just can't wait till the water gets a bit colder so all of the "fair weather" surfers go home and they take off the parking meters on the island. But this picture also reminds me that there are empty waves if you just take the time to look for them.

Please Welcome The Newest Slide Mongrel

This is our friend Warren Reid Squires. He is a true stylist both in and out of the water, we just wanted to welcome him to the ASM team. Hopefully we'll have some more pictures from Reid to come. Oh yeah did I mention he takes cool pics and a member of the band The Adult Situations? Well thats him, so if you see him shake his hand.

And So It Begins

HI my name is Rich Corbin and I am an Alternative Slide Mongrel
This Is Matt Yaeger and HE is and Alternative Slide Mongrel.

We are the founding members of the ASM aka the AS Crew aka the warriors of sadness. We slide the walls of Wrightsville Beach by day and roam the streets of Wilmington by night. We try not to conform to what the surf shops and modern surf mags tell us what to ride or what we should wear. WE are alternative slide mongrels, you can be too.
