Austen exploring the nasal cavity, back when we used to have waves around here.
My good friend Jarrod Covington has spent the last month or so chasing waves and shredding them all around Europe he's got a pretty choice blog Misadventures in the Lands of the Strange that you should take a look at.
This guy has to be the best North Carolinian ever right up there with Thelonious Monk, Michael Jordan, Dale Earnhardt Sr., Richard Petty, James Taylor, Doc Watson, Andrew Jackson and Zach Galifianakis. He is by far the best drummer turned pianist/frontman i've ever seen. I love Ben's music and if you can't appreciate his arrangements you can get out. OHHH by the way tonight was my 22nd birthday, and yes this is how I like to spend the last hours of my birthdays. Rambling on the internet about things I like and wish to share with the public, but have no regard for your opinion. That is unless you agree with me, in that case you are awesome!
Of all of the grades I spent in elementary school this was the third. Chillin with my bro Ren back in the day.
Just goes to show you can take the best longboarders in the world and an East Coaster takes it all. I think its just because everyone else isn't used to shitty waves but regardless, big ups to this guy. More info at Surfer and Vans Surf
I don't know about you, but I enjoy viewing most all moving pictures by Nathan Oldfield. Especially when they involve such top loggers as Dane Peterson. This short vimeo vid is top notch and most definitely worth your time. We haven't had ridable wave in almost 10 days and nothing forecasted for the rest of the week.
YESHHH! looks like we just have something to ride by next Saturday! most likely not however a water glider can dream can't he? Until then Its to the books and the wooded trails that are perfect for a two wheeled mode of leg powered transportation.
Wrote into Eastern Shortboard.... I mean Eastern Surf Mag a while ago after reading a recent issue. They seemed to have a little something to say about my comment on their renowned contest coverage. However I wrote to them nearly a month before the hugely successful duct tape invitational put on by Vans and Joel Tudor. I believe I posted this video in early September sometime. Its all good though, despite the only longboarding picture in the in the current issue is a banner ad by Ricky Carroll supporting Justin Quital, I think they are starting to accept that people do longboard on the East Coast and it can be marketable. Oh yeah and as for Tony Silvagni and Mikey DeTemple pushing longboarding on the right coast there is a reason that Tony spends his summers at home and the rest of the year in Hawaii and following the longboard tour around the world; and DeTemple has been spending most of his time shooting his films on the pacific coast.
We had some really fun waves down here at good old Wrightville Beach. Along with waves we had about nine inches of rain in town and floods all over the place. I was able to get out for a little bit but blew out my knee on a not so great right hander. I'm crossing my fingers it isn't anything too bad. I got hit by the lip and got pushed straight down on my board forcing my front leg to bend to the left, felt a decent pop and smacked the deck of my board just to top it off. Just super sore and doesn't really want to do what its meant to do at the moment, but had some fun ones today none the less. I'm trying to take it easy the rest of the week in hopes of being 100% for a little trip up the coast this weekend.
These photos are from a recent rafting trip down the mighty Gauley River in West Virginia. We had a dandy of a time going down the upper and lower Gauley, camping at the bottom of the lower and then did the upper again the next day. Unfortunately the morning that the above picture was taken a girl lost her life from falling out of a raft and getting caught under a huge rock, because of this they had to reduce the amount of water being let in from the dam exposing most of the rocks. This also made our trip down the next day a lot more gnarles and tons of fun. It just sucks that these things happen.
We had a little wave this afternoon with a good amount of wind. In the right spot every 30 minutes a wave would come in that didn't close out so those were pretty fun. It looks like we've got some more swell on the way for this weekend just in time for me to leave for West Virginia to battle the mighty Gauley river. Should be a good time with all of saturday on the river and campin that night at the bottom of the lower Gauley.
Got up to the Mountains last weekend. Such a nice change of pace and weather. Instead of 98 degrees it was only 80 and I found out how long pants feel again. A memorable frame from Fresh Fruit For Rotten Vegetables. Alex Knost getting weird.
Earl is on the way, my friends in the outer banks have had to evacuate the island, and it looks like we have two more little devils on the way. Hopefully they won't make landfall and give us really really good waves that the sandbars here on Wrightsville Beach won't be able to handle! But really I wouldn't mind getting some waves. Hopefully Earl will help straighten out bars up.
Finally got some waves today. I was able to get out for a little while when it was good and a little while when it was bad, and when I mean bad lets just say the WB Police Department doesn't like us very much. All in all its nice to haves waves and Herriken Earl is on the way to send us more aquatic goodness later this week. Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin just came out with a new album "Let it Sway". These guys never cease to amaze. Since their fist album "Broom" each album since has been better than the last, but somehow still they keep to their melodic and harmonic roots, which I really like. So check it out, if you haven't already.
